I had high expectations and was very happy when I received the unit. I also bought the matched set of speakers HKT 18 and the two additional ones for 7.1.

Two problems: I do not play them loud, I like the volume low to average but I still have to turn up the dial to at least 55-65% on the scale in an average size room..even if watching a movie with only talking.

The second problem is I had to return the unit to HK for problems after 4 months. (at a cost of $21 shipping to me) They replaced it with a "reconditioned" unit and now after 10 months the sub-woofer has failed...or is it the reconditioned AV unit...after talking to HK I was took to take it to a service center two hours from here.

Save Sony Srs-Zx1 Stereo Speakers (Silver)

These speakers are perfect if you want something small to use instead of crappy TV speakers, particularly because they have a remote. The low end is amazing for the size, but it is difficult for the single, tiny driver to deliver frequency response across the entire spectrum. I find myself wishing they had a bit more high-end crispness, but I'm still impressed overall given the physical dimensions. There isn't a way to adjust the treble/bass levels on these, but setting my ipod EQ to "treble booster" seems to help.

Compared to the Altec Lansing powered speakers I had before, these are much better. I don't have any problems with interference as I did with the old speakers, so the shielding on these must be decent. The one feature I wish these speakers had is auto-on; not a big deal turning them on & off though.

This is such a great subwoofer. I was replacing a powered Sony subwoofer with this RPW10. The bass alone sounds much different, and a lot clearer then the Sony. The Sony subwoofer had trouble recreating different types of bass frequencies where it would basically just sound like a "boom" when the bass hit. The Klipsch subwoofer hits such a wide range of frequencies that it hits lower notes before it gets to that "boom". This subwoofer is 420 watts with an average power of 200 watts RMS.


It sounds great when listening to music because it adds so much character to the audio experience. It makes the music more full rather then just give an annoying banging of the bass drum. The subwoofer has a phase switch, crossover frequency knob, and an auto on feature which is very convenient. Even the knobs they used are of excellent quality and actually click as you turn them. I am very pleased with this subwoofer.

As a side note, if you are having trouble with the subwoofer turning off when listening at low volumes, you just increase the subwoofer output level on your receiver and then lower the volume on the subwoofer to compensate. Since this unit is VERY difficult to program--and-- since the 996XT does NOT come with a printed or printable manual, I have to rate the 996XT a 2.
IF Uniden would provide a printed manual or a .pdf printable manual, I would rate this unit with 5 stars. I had the fortune of having my 996xt pre-programmed when I purchased it and if it were not for that, the 996XT would be a paperweight. With the pre-programming, I think it is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade from my original BCD396. If you get the 996xt--I highly recommend pre-programming and some software to use it (I use the Arc software).

SEVERE Downgrade and SIGNIFICANT confusion on why Uniden still uses a Serial port (for GPS) and made the GLARING and unforgivable mistake of not providing a printed or printable manual for the 996XT.

If Uniden can turn the manual mistake around, my rating would be significantly higher. My personal opinion is that anyone who has the unit or is thinking of purchasing it, that they write/call Uniden and tell them to fix this SIGNIFICANT oversight of no printed manual. Without a manual, the unit is USELESS.

The OS3s are an especially good choice if you're looking for speakers for a room that isn't a dedicated home theater with the recommended layout. With 8 ohms impedance, they are compatible with any receiver/amplifier. The 89db sensitivity means they will be easy to drive - they don't need an excessive amount of power to produce sound. But with power handling of up to 150 watts, they can produce a lot of sound.

The changes from the V2 version are mostly cosmetic - Mirage knew they could sell a lot more of these if they offered a gloss black or white finish. There are a few small technical changes as well - ribbed surrounds, and some other small changes in the drivers. (The floorstanding versions have a few more changes.)

A couple things to note in thinking about whether they are right for you:

- The OS3s are very small for the sound they produce, but they aren't tiny speakers at 5-1/4"W x 8-1/4"H x 6-1/8"D. Look at the dimensions, and find something about that size at home to give you an idea of how they'll fit in. (Mirage does make the smaller Mirage Nanosat Prestige satellite and Mirage MX satellite speakers. While they're nice, they don't quite have the performance the OS3s have. But they are very popular due to their size.)

- Alternatively, if you have space, use these just as satellites and get the FS (floorstanding) and center speaker that perfectly match these.

- If you have a room with lots of very hard surfaces (all glass and walls, not much drapery and carpets) there may be a lot of sound reflections in the high end from these omnidirectional speakers, so they may sound "bright" or a bit harsh in your room. Getting them placed right (away from walls and windows) might help reduce that, but they still might not be the best choice in such a room.

- Despite their amazing ability to fill a room, as with all speakers placement relative to where you're listening from is essential to getting the best sound. You need to be able to look into the speaker from where you're sitting for it to sound best.

Before purchasing this system I auditioned a Sony Bravia system and one of Paradigm's upper end systems. We probably give up on watching one out of every three movies because of the sheer frustration. Basically it goes like this: everything is fine until at some random (usually crucial) part of the movie the picture will pause itself. None of the buttons on the remote will work. You have 3 choices:

(i) Wait. Sometimes it will start again by itself, but usually only for a few seconds before it stops again;
(ii) Note the chapter you were up to, eject the disc, turn off the power, turn it on again, reinstall the disc, find the chapter and fast forward to the scene you were at. Don't sit back down though because 95% of the time it will happen again within 5 minutes; or
(iii) Note the chapter you were up to, eject the disc, turn off the power, put the disc in a laptop and watch it using headphones (nb. doesn't work if there is more than one viewer).

Read the reviews and do not be fooled: when it comes to playing DVDs this item is inferior to any $30 player you can buy in a service station. If you care about DVDs you WILL have to buy a separate DVD player as well as this item.

Other than DVDs I use this to play music through an Ipod or laptop. The sound is pretty good. However, a friend just bought a blu-ray player with an ipod dock built in (which can be controlled via the remote and playlists viewed on screen) and 5 wireless speakers for $500. It sounds about a million times better.

This item would be perfect if you live in a small apartment, don't watch DVDs and listen to the radio a lot or still play CDs. I purchased, on sale for $499, the Cinema 110 CT in silver. As soon as I opened the box, I noticed one of the wall-mount brackets was missing. I sent an e-mail to Amazon to notify them and request one to be sent to me. I continued to unpack and get the speakers out, and when I was pulling out the sub I noticed something rattling. It turns out that one of the "legs" (stand-offs) was completely broken off and rattling in the plastic bag. I sent another e-mail to Amazon to report that and asked for a replacement. The responses I received from Amazon was that they don't have the model in stock, so I could either keep it and get 15% off (response to 1st e-mail), $50 off (response to 2nd e-mail), or return it for refund. I actually want to keep the set, just not with a broken piece. Since the black version is available I figured to call Amazon's customer service and ask if they would replace my set with a black one considering it's pretty much "like-for-like". You can guess from the title the answer I got was a "no." Since I purchased the silver ones on sale they can't replace them with the black ones even though they are exactly the same. The problem is not that something was damaged or missing. Quite frankly I think Paradigm shipped the set out that way since there's no visible sign of damage bad enough that could have done the damage. The box didn't look like it had been opened, so the bracket must have been missing from the factory. What Amazon has failed is to do the simple, right thing and deliver the customer service it promises. I'm sure Amazon can either get a sub from Paradigm for replacement or replace mine with the black ones and send mine back to Paradigm for credit. But why bother, right? I already bought the receiver, speaker wire, connectors and ceiling mounts to go with the speakers. Why bother giving me, a customer, service. My advise is to think TWICE before you THINK TWICE about buying anything worth more than a couple of hundred dollars. If you do after all the thinking then just pray that it shows up in perfect condition. I too own Kef's (The Rolls Royce of speakers) and Definity speakers, Polks, JBL's Altec Lansings, etc. and can truly say that each speaker company has their unique signature sound style. Just like different kinds of music you will find different kinds of speakers and amps. It really depends on what you like, and what your tastes are. For my exquisite taste I enjoy the Bose Lifestyle 35, V30 and Companion 3. The Lifestyle 35 and V30 contain the small jewell speakers and a sub speaker that produces LFE lows. The sub speaker also produces low bass notes and voice. The small jewell speakers produce the Mid level sounds and high notes. The small speakers also produce some highs which will create a high timbre of sounds. You will hear everything on the soundtrack come out as clean, clear and precise as you can imagine. These sounds will satisfy you in knowing that your money was well spent. You won't be carrying around speakers that weigh a ton or take up so much room in your house. You can create the perfect sound with invisible speakers. What more could I ask for.
If you get a chance and have the money then BUY one of these systems from BOSE. I truly recommend the Bose Lifestyle 35 my favorite and the Bose V30 systems.

I was investigating the Paradigm, Klipsch, Monitor Audio Gold and Martin Logans when I stumbled across this center channel. They are so articulate that they can even be used for your left and right channels. I didn't do that though. Across the front are two 7001SC towers with built in subs pushing 1500 watts each. Combine that with the center channel and space shuttles can really blast off in your theatre room. Decided to stay with one brand for timbre matching so I used the UIW75 in walls for side surround and the BPZA's in the rear ceiling for rear surrounds. Sounds amazing with movies AND music. I am a classical and jazz nut and the DefTechs give the Paradigm refs a good run for the money. I would recommend this center to everyone who loves good sound. Crosley Director CD Recorder - Paprika (CR246-PA) Review

After reading several reviews I bought the stereo with the hope that it would work but the expectation that it wouldn't. Every function worked fine except the lp to cd recording which was the main reason I bought it. Out of 15 wasted cd's I was able to record 2. It would begin recording then stop after a few tracks. It recorded cassettes to cd's beautifully.The sound from the tuner is fair, could use more depth (bass/treble), but again, it's a turntable and not a stereo. Records sound great as do cds and cds recorded from tapes sound better than the original tapes. I'll return it to Target and try another one. Judging from the reviews this product seems to be hit or miss. I wouldn't discourage anyone from buying one. Just be prepared to be disappointed. Hope this helps. P.S. I was using Memorex CD-R blank cds. I went to Radio Shack to check into trying CD-RW blanks (you can record over these) but was told it wouldn't matter in my recording problems. So when buying this product I advise using the CD-RW blank cds so as not to waste a bunch of blank cd's should you have problems. Sirius SPB1 Sportster Boombox This instant

I bought the Lifetime Subscription from Sirius and have used it for several years now. The ONLY good thing about Sirius is the programming. The equipment is junk (especially this boombox....which just dies without warning). It is so frustrating having to constantly deal with Sirius' Customer Dis-Service all the time trying to get your equipment fixed. Between the enormous wait times to actually get to speak to someone, the CSRs who are completely unsympathetic to how awful the product is, and the time aggravation of boxing, shipping, and tracking your returns (and you better track them because they will lose it and then tell you that they know nothing about it) you will become disgusted too.
Anyone who raves about the products from Sirius are "newbies" who just got the service or item. I was one of them once. They will change their minds in due course. Once their item breaks (and it absolutely will break within a year..... maybe 18 months), and their replacement breaks, and then that replacement breaks, and then the newer model (upgrade?) breaks......... they will realize the pain of us long-standing customers. Sirius/XM is intentionally seeking to destroy itself with garbage product and with garbage service. They have no one but themselves to blame. I'm on my 3rd boombox and it's shot after 6 months. I'm on my 4th Sportster Replay unit in 5 years.

I have mine in a 20 x 20 room and it fills it with very smooth, tight and not boomy bass. I hear and feel now low frequencies that I was not aware they exist. This is a very powerful sub but if you calibrate it properly you will get a fantastic clean sound. I tried the Micro2000 before in the same room and it didn't work very well. Just too small. In 07 I did UP-grade my old 5.1 system to get to the newer level of quality in sound, images, compatibility, connectivity and entertainment. I did start with a 60" 1080p Sony screen, then add a PS3 (for game, DVD, blue-ray, and HDMI). Well my old Technics db-pro receiver did need to get replace to keep-up with the new standart. I didn't have allot more to spend... I did shop for the best for my new set-up without having to spend too many hundreds... I find this receiver for 600$ +free shipping. Back then that was cheap.

What a discovery, not only it's design for the PS3 and my Bravia TV but finally I find an amp with on screen controls, a system intuitive, where my wife can use it and without a dozen of remote controls, and also have a book to know how to switch the component the right way to watch the TV, a DVD or play music. The HDMI, what an improvement, its blow away old multi wires system. With just 4 HDMI wires and power cord now I have the ps3, a HDMI PC the receiver (with tuner, XM, i-pod) and the TV. Noting is missing. I did throw away the VCRs, tape deck, CD player, bobbin deck, turn table even the equalizer... Why, because I finally accept the digital and who want-it? I finally got fed-up with the static, back ground noise, bad wires, bad connection, hummmmm, and should I tell you about the differences from VCR and DVD, digital and analogical... I hope not. I couldn't watch a VCR or listened tapes and vinyl disk anymore. It a shame because I paid way too much back then, when it was the thing to have.

This is what I can call an entertainments center. With the WII, PS3 and the PC/Wi-Fi internet, it's a paradise. No wonder why I can't get my sun off the screen... He is 18 and never goes out. There way too much fun in front of the screen. Thank Sony now I have a geek as a sun ;-)
What I want to bring to your attention after all is: Do some research look at all you can do with this receiver, match it with a good monitor add the others amps for and extra kick on the subs and I guaranty you, you will be impress. Oh ya, I know the new DG1200 with internet radio directly on it and much more but for now I'm happy and I have to finish paying for it... I believe this receiver is cheap and incredible, if you look at how easy to use-it, the versality, the quality and technology, to me it's unbelievable. No you can't compare it to hyper fancy and expensive sound system but to me it's allot more fun and it's either shake me in front of a good movie, captive me with a game, help me to explore new music on the internet, chat, create music, shop at Amazon or just play an old CD. I know I can also lurn English on it too but I'm to bussy having fun...

Go to Sony, read and see the capacity. Be careful, you may have to get a new TV, a PS3, a new set of speakers add more amps with direct sub and some "Buttkicker" under the sofa.
